late nineteenth, early twentieth century57" x 13", 145 cm x 33 cm This is a length of richly toned, hand woven cotton. The repeated stripes are a beautifully varied mixture, three set of which are woven using kasuri warp yarns which give a variegated effect to the overall piece. What is a lovely addition to the piece is the two, small patches that are hand stitched to the surface: these contrasting cotton patches add visual interest to an already good looking length of old, handwoven cotton. A beautiful and unusual length of cotton from old Japan.
