A Length of Striped, Weft-Based Kasuri: Indigo Dyed Cotton

early to mid twentieth century38" x 13 1/4", 96.5 cm x 33.5 cm This is a lovely length of indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth, the indigo color being a very dark blue, almost a black tone. The cloth shows three sets of three warp-based white stripes. The geometric designs are weft-based and could be inspired by traditional kasuri designs woven into Okinawan textiles, which have long influenced Japanese weaving. The length is in good, used condition and shows a small hole which is illustrated on the accompanying detail photo. A beautiful length of kasuri cotton.
