Beautifully Figured HENRY MOUNTAINS 14 lb. Utah Petrified Wood Bookend Set w/ Fossil FUNGUS!!

This is a richly colored and uncommonly nicely preserved set of petrified wood bookends from Utah's Henry Mountains. It's one of the largest sets we cut from this exceptionally colorful petrified log! We don't see a lot of this stone anymore but this old stock log came from the Burnett estate many years ago. I picked up a really colorful chunk in that estate sale and just got around to cutting it recently. This wood is among the finest found in Utah, or all of the Southwest for that matter. The fossil is an ancient conifer that dominated the Late Triassic landscape and is an ancestor to modern redwoods. The circular structures you see near the rind are the fossil remnants of fungus growths that invaded the trunk, making this a double fossil treasure! The pieces are mirror images to one another making for a truly mesmerizing display of natural art! Petrified wood from this area is highly prized for the nice color of this gem grade fossil which takes a beautiful polish to reveal
