Belonging to the same genus as true Egyptian papyrus and retaining its papermaking qualities, this compact sedge grows to just 12–24 inches tall and about one foot wide, with a neat clumping habit. Bright green, upright stalks support perfectly formed starburst-like clusters of modified flowers. Native to the Americas, it remains evergreen in temperatures as low as 20°F. It’s a versatile choice for artistic display gardens, water basins, small ponds, decorative pots, or greenhouses. Plant in moist soil or standing water, in full or partial sun.
