"Well what seems like a fairly simple composition (painting wise), this image held a few challenges for me... First off, is the smoggy setting. I mean what color is smog? Growing up in So Cal, you would think I would very familiar with it, and indeed I've inhaled my fair share of it...I now realize that Gas painted his cars a bright orange, probably just to be able to see them through the smog. Here we see Gas dumping the chute at Irwindale on a normal smoggy afternoon...You can see a couple of Santa Fe's boxcars in the background, but visibility that day, was only about a mile, so there is no way to see the hills in the distance...There is photographer standing
