The 58 TWISTERS
L imited-Edition Print of 350 (13x19) Signed and numbered by the Artist. "When I was a kid growing up in the 60s, I could have cared less about anything from the 50s, all I cared about was the "latest and the Greatest". Now some 40 years later, as I illustrate the history of this sport, I am completely enamored with these original Hot Rods. I found this image for the painting in an old "Speed Mechanics" magazine from 1958, captured by Robert Behme's camera. The members of the "Twisters " car club from Vista California, built this car under the direction of Clyde Wilson. It featured an Olds engine with a direct-drive setup, and was fashioned on a set of 39 Chevy frame rails. The car ran speeds of up to 160 mph. (I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to do 160 in that car! Geez...those were some brave guys!) This was the time the first cars were built exclusively for Drag Racing only...I love the image
