Musically, Before I Burn was inspired by a wide variety of bands and sounds, everything from Tears for Fears to Darkthrone. The title track, for instance, was heavily inspired by the ballad-y tunes of Neil Young, as well as eighties power rock legends RATT. The album's lyrics are the band's most sinister to date.
