Once a year, the stills at The Balvenie distillery are cleaned. The distillery then took advantage for a week before this major cleaning to distill peat malt. We then obtain a single malt made only from Speyside peat and aged exclusively in American oak barrels for 14 years. This peated single malt manages to surprise us while retaining the softness and roundness that makes the character of The Balvenie.
