After a longtime career in New York City, working everywhere from Condé Nast magazines to Ralph Lauren, from Random House to The Muppets, Mary Maguire settled in Connecticut and set up a painting studio overlooking Whalebone Creek. There, in a studio that was long ago the general store and post office of the town, she paints a wide array of subjects, inspired by images from the 17th to the 19th century – from animals to architecture, from natural history to portraiture, and very often nautical subjects, inspired by her time growing up on the coast of New England. Mary Maguire’s work has appeared in Architectural Digest, Vogue, Elle Decor, Veranda, House Beautiful and other publications.
