Versions depicting 123, & 456 have more space on the top / bottom Vs 123456. We can see that the 123456 has 4½" on all sides, but it has 24" in the middle which is not present in the 123 or the 456. Thus, if we want to keep everything else the same we need to add in another 12". We could have put the extra 12" all on top of the 456, and at the bottom of the 123. This would allow you to push the mats together top to bottom and they will exactly match the big 123456 rug. We have split the difference so that if they laid end to end they would still line up horizontally.
