V I N T A G E // mesmerizer / 18k and platinum opal and diamond cluster ring / size 6
sometimes there's a ring with stones that glow regardless of the lighting and this. is. that. ring. it has six single cut diamonds and a center opal, all of which absolutely glue and mesmerize regardless of the lighting situation. this ring was expertly made and has been cared for over the years leaving a 'was it ever worn?' question hanging around it. the milgrain edges are crisp and clear. the setting and stones have very minimal surface wear. it's a little hard to date this ring and tell its origin story, but it could be nearing antique. Best guess is that it dates to the 1940s, but was inspired by the 1920s and earlier. it's uncharacteristically sturdy for a diamond and opal cluster ring, which hints that it might have been born in the 1940s when hefty structural integrity was the name of the jewelry game. *opals are a very porous, soft stone so they require a caretaker who will take them off before extended contact with water (dishwashing, etc), and they don’t want to be worn for
