Tony’s picture of Ribot showed the famous feisty spirit of the great European champion, who was never beaten in 16 races, including back-to-back runnings of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Leased to American breeder John W. Galbreath through an innovative five-year lease, Ribot came to Galbreath’s Darby Dan Farm, but because of his temperament, no insurance company was willing to cover his return trip to England. A leading sire of worldwide influence, Ribot lived out his life at Darby Dan in a field specially fenced so that he could not see the other stallions in nearby paddocks.
