Art Deco Brunvil Sterling & Enamel Coffin Pendant Watch
Mostly considered a novelty today, pendant watches have ebbed and flowed in popularity since the 1500s. A precursor to the pocket watch, these dangling necklace watches originally were worn by women of extreme wealth. But as time ticked on (and prices dropped), pendant watches became less of a status symbol and more of a fashion statement -- becoming the preferred watch of choice among women in the belle époque, Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. This stunning coffin-shaped watch hails from the mid- to late-1920s. It is made by Brunvil, a subsidiary of Swiss luxury watchmaker Blancpain. The striking case is crafted in sterling silver with exquisite deco floral enamel detailing. It has a manual Swiss movement with 15 jewels and 3 adjusts and comes on a sterling chain.
