There are so many things we love about antique jewelry: the craftsmanship, the attention to detail, the way it was made to withstand the test of time and, sometimes, its journey and evolution.  This striking bar pin has certainly had a bit of a glow up in its almost 200-year lifespan.  The centerpiece of this brooch hails from the Georgian era, circa 1830. It is a beautiful mourning brooch surrounded by amethyst, garnet and ruby stones with plaited hair under the glass.  At some point around the turn of the 20th century, someone decided to convert this diminutive brooch into larger (and stylistically more popular at the time) bar or collar brooch.  Unfortunately, we don't know who the hair belongs to but they were clearly someone quite special to the person who owned this piece to go through the trouble and expense to have it converted.  We hope it becomes as special and as loved to you as it was for them.
