2013 ArPePe Valtellina Superiore Inferno Sesto Canto Riserva (750ml)
Tucked away high on the Alps, just south of the Italian-Swiss border, the steep terraced vineyards of AR.PE.PE. (an abbreviation of founder Arturo Pelizzatti Perego's initials) are yielding some of the most unique and noteworthy wines in the region. At the helm of this storied estate, is the fifth generation of the Pelizzatti Perego family. The roots of this remarkable estate go back to the 1860s, when the current generation’s great-great-grandfather Giovanni founded a successful winery in the area, then known only as “Pelizzatti.” Over 160 years later, AR.PE.PE. is widely recognized as one of if not the best producer in the appellation, as well as a benchmark producer of Nebbiolo in general. Production is very much of the old-school and everything across their thirteen hectares of vines is done by hand. The transparency of the grape, the singular landscape and the Peregos’ gentle hand in the cellar make for wines that are up there with Italy’s greats.96 points: "Made in high-altitude
