Bérêche & Fils, based in the village of Ludes, just 15 kilometers south of Reims, stands as the premier grower-producer in this hidden gem of the Champagne region. The estate meticulously tends to 26 plots spread across 11.5 hectares, while also sourcing fruit from an additional two hectares in Ambonnay, Cramant and Trépail. "It had been six months since I last drank a botte of the current release of the Bérêche et Fils Brut Réserve non-vintage cuvée, which is from the base year of 2021 and was disgorged in December of 2023. It was finished this year with a dosage of six grams per liter. The wine is blossoming very nicely and offers up a lovely bouquet of apple, white peach, fresh-baked bread, chalky minerality, hazelnut and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and sports lovey mid-palate depth, with a good foundation of soil tones, elegant mousse, a fine spine of acidity and lovely balance on the long, youthfully complex and nicely precise finish
