
Gift of Life Sock Set
In January I had the honor of donating my peripheral blood stem cells to a random match donee suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The matching and donation processes were coordinated by Gift of Life - I worked with them for almost a year between finding out I was a match and completing the donation, and I’m looking forward to working with them more as I get updates on how my donee is doing!Gift of Life is a nonprofit organization dedicated to curing blood cancers. Their marrow donor registry is associated with the National Marrow Donor Program and Be the Match and is a member of the global registry, Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide. Joining the marrow registry only involves a cheek swab! Of course, being a match and going through the donation process is not as simple and involves a lot more pokes with needles, but that’s nothing compared with the hope you could give an individual suffering from blood cancer who needs transplantation.
