Quantity on Spool Each spool of Soie Gobelins has 50 meters of thread and threads 40 tubes in current full collection (the collection is missing 2214) Thread Structure Soie Gobelins is a 2-ply highly twisted filament silk, supplied on the tube in a single strand.  It is usually used non-divided, straight from the spool.  In rare cases, it can be untwisted into the original two untwisted plies that then retain the kink in the ply from the twisting process.  This replicates the look of 18th century American samplers when using the untwisted silk for satin stitch.  Uses of Soie Gobelins Soie Gobelins is a highly versatile thread prized for its fine weight and tightly twisted structure. It is approximately the same thickness as Au Ver a Soie 100/3, twice the thickness of a strand of Soie Paris, and half the thickness of Soie Perlee. This makes it an excellent substitute for 100/3 in sampler work, while its tighter twist also makes it easier to handle than two plies of Soie Paris in counted
