It comes with an escutcheon on the front for decoration, as there is no lock. Each box includes either a brass or tin-coated brass escutcheon along with tacks for securing it. The design of this box is inspired by several small 17th-century embroidery-covered trinket boxes, which range in size from 2" x 3" x 4" to 4" x 8" x 5". In the Cabinet of Curiosities course, this box serves as the foundation for working the embroidery covering. Students will practice the techniques of attaching the embroidery to the paper-covered box. Additional trinket boxes may be purchased for experimenting with other designs or for making gifts. Templates for the sides and covering materials will be provided during the course.
