William Persona Emmett Kelly Sad Clown Original Oil Painting 10x8 Signed William Persona (1903-1996) was a resident of Laguna Beach until 1972 which ios the address listed on the back. William Persona was born in West Virginia in 1903. He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and came to Los Angeles in the 1920s for further study at the Otis Art Institute. He then worked as a cartoonist for the Hollywood Citizen News and Long Beach Telegram. For a few years he was an artist for the Sydney Daily in Australia. Upon returning to Hollywood in the 1930s, he made props for the movie studios.
