The Jura region, located just east of Burgundy near the Swiss border, was a bit of a mystery until a decade ago. With a mix of familiar (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay) and unfamiliar (Trousseau, Savagnin) grapes, the Jura was sort of a closely guarded secret among sommeliers in places like NYC.  The word has gotten out since then, although the wines are still considered a little hipster-ish. Perhaps the best known appellation in the Jura is this one- "Arbois." Arbois is driven largely by the light-colored but highly aromatic Poulsard grape, but may also contain Trousseau and Pinot Noir.  The Tissot "DD" bottling is made in a natural style, and shows lots of wild strawberry, cherry, and floral notes. A bottle of this would get approving nods from Brooklyn sommeliers, and I had three different wine reps ask me to save them a bottle.  For someone looking to try something new.... Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir. Serve slightly chilled.
