The NP261-HD transfer case is a manual-shift transfer case for 2001-2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD. This unit is remanufactured in our South Carolina facility and includes a twenty four month unlimited miles warranty. About the NP261-HD The NP261HD transfer case was originally manufactured by New Venture Gear and is a manual shift unit. This model was manufactured with left side drop output and has a low gear ratio of 2.72 to 1. This unit offers a combination of 2-high, 4-high, neutral and 4-low.  The 261HD has a 32 spline front input, 32 rear slip output, female spline front output. The original rear case half on 261HD units has a design issue where the oil pump rubs against the case causing pin-holes in the soft thin magnesium shell. These pin-holes allow the fluid to seep out and evaporate, leaving the transfer case without proper lubrication and cooling. This happens so gradually that you probably don't realize it until there has been sufficient damage done
