Punk Princess Ring - Hefty Sterling Silver, 14kyg Accent, and a Mahenge Garnet Bullet Cabochon - Stone and Ring by: Scott Maier

Gem:  Eye Clean Mahenge garnet cut by Scott Maier - approximately 1+ ct. Materials:  Sterling silver ring - thick material, good heft;  14kyg accent Ring Size:  5.5 to 5.75 Comments: I named this ring the 'punk princess ring' when I made it, because it is SO visually forward, I think it would suit someone with a similar personality.   The gem is a Mahenge Garnet - discovered in 2015, and soon sold off the market - known for their exceptional brightness (beyond most other garnets) and amazing color-shifting properties. The gem, and the 14k accent protrude out into space, which puts the color of the gem and gold on display quite conspicuously.   After I completed this ring, which is faceted into a point at the tip of the gem, I realized that it has a peripheral, unintended use -- If you're walking to your car, or back home late at night, you can turn the gem to the palm side of your hand in case you meet a stranger with bad intentions.
