Cold Winter's Night

It's Winter break, everyone is home. You finish up with dinner and decide to leave the mess for later. The kids are yelling, you start to feel a bit overwhelmed. You take a deep breath, quickly make some hot cocoa, and get everyone's shoes and coats out. Your family looks on, confused. "Everyone, out. Let's go." You grab a blanket, step outside and are instantly met with the most incredible silence. You look up at the sky, the stars, feeling the air on your skin and in your lungs. Before you can think it, your little one whispers, "wowww." It is a beautiful night. Cold, calm, still. The air is fresh and a even a little sweet. You wrap your arms around your crew and you can feel your shoulders lower, your jaw unclench, and you remember what really matters. All it took was the scent and feel of a cold winter's night.
