*Plaintiff-only product Amazon and other large corporations have started adopting an independent contractor-based employment model for sections of their business. The “gig economy”—which spans information technology, transportation, and several other job market sectors—is appealing because it potentially reduces a company’s overhead and legal liability. Joe Fried and his partner Michael Goldberg of Fried Goldberg recently secured a $16.2 million jury verdict against Amazon. In one of the first cases of its kind, Fried and Goldberg successfully argued that Amazon exerted significant control over their independent contractors, and should therefore be held financially liable under a broader set of terms. The verdict in this case is likely to fuel further litigation against companies that rely on contractor-based models, particularly in sectors like logistics, delivery, and rideshare services.  Join Joe Fried for a 90-minute webinar that broadly explores: The three types of Amazon cases
