What is Lepidolite?   Lepidolite is a lithium-rich mica stone that usually contains varying presence of Mica, Lithium, Quartz (and Chromium in Quartz), Feldspar, Spodumene, Rubellite, Manganese, Rubidium, Cesium, and less occurring Pollucite.  Mineralogically, because Lepidolite is a combination of many minerals, it is better classified as a rock rather than a singularly identified mineral.   Because lithium is colorless, the light lilac to purple to deep bluish-purple hues in Lepidolite are attributed to the varying saturations of Manganese.  Pleochroism is an optical phenomenon in which a substance - mineral - has different colors observed at different angles and light.
