Two Conversations divided many listeners and critics upon its release. While some saw the album's more conventional song structures, less diverse sonic palette and relationship-driven lyrics as a blatant artistic retreat after the intense, experimental Low Level Owl project, others praised it as an assured combination of the driving emo-rock of their earlier work subtly embellished with elements of the Low Level Owl sound.
