
African Funk Experimentals (1977-1979)
Tim (aka Jean Marie Tiam) and his late cousin Maurice Foty, who passed in 2011, hailed from Bafoussam, Cameroon. Known for their signature vocal harmonies, they also produced some of the funkiest African funk, singing in Ngomâlah, Duala, and English. The album opens with the instrumental groove of "Douala By Night", famously sampled by Missy Elliot, followed by "Funky Bafoussam", enriched with a powerful horn section. "More And More" delivers upbeat pop-funk with vibrant vocals, while "Love Is Light" showcases their smooth soul balladry. The infectious "Aie" features a catchy keyboard riff and falsetto vocals, while "Not So Bad"keeps the boogie vibe alive. "I Love Yaounde" combines swing and a memorable hook, and "Eda" revisits an early career hit. The album closes with the disco-funk of "Funky Boogie Love"and the synth-driven "Eya Mba."
