When flames paint the sky orange and smoke darkens the horizon, most of us have the luxury of running away. But for firefighters, that's when their true calling begins – running straight into nature's fury while everyone else retreats to safety. During the Southern California fires, our community witnessed firsthand what real courage looks like. While we worried about our possessions from the safety of distant hotels, firefighters waged war against walls of flame. While we tracked the fire's path on our phones, they traced it with their boots, their faces streaked with soot, their bodies exhausted but their spirits unbroken. That image in the grocery store stays with us – firefighters, covered in ash, stealing brief moments between battles, looking like they hadn't slept in days. Because they hadn't. While we counted the hours until we could return home, they counted the seconds they could rest before answering another call. But perhaps the greatest heroes in these moments are the fa
