Considered one of the best cultivars of P. trunciflora, it has been selected by the late José Aurélio Vilela, one of the first jaboticaba collectors in Brazil. Ipuiúna is the name of a city in South Minas Gerais, from where Vilela got this deliciously sweet selection. According to him, its flavor resembles the sweet red berries of Coffea arabica (coffee plant).
