
Wood Betony (Stachys offcinalis)
Alternative Names: Common Hedgenettle, Betony, Purple Betony, Bishopwort Description: Wood Betony has sedative actions and may be used to decrease blood pressure, treat headaches, improve circulation, and decrease anxiety. It has long been associated with the solar plexus region of the body and is an excellent digestive tonic. Wood betony has also been used as an old remedy for arthritis and gout. It is generally taken as a tea or applied externally in baths or as a compress. Precautions: People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or using blood pressure medications should be cautious before using wood betony. Stop taking wood betony at least 2 weeks before having surgery.
