It is typically used in a tea or decoction to treat insomnia, migraine, fatigue, anxiety, and stomach cramps. It acts like a sedative in the brain and nervous system and has been used as a traditional medicine dating back to Greek and Roman times. Precautions: Valerian may not be safe if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. And it has not been evaluated to determine if it's safe for children under 3 years old. If you have liver disease, avoid taking valerian. And because valerian can make you drowsy, avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery after taking it.
