
Solidago flexicaulis
Solidago flexicaulis Most commonly known as Zig Zag Goldenrod, this perennial features stems that"zig zag" from leaf to leaf. These leaves are bluntly toothed all along the stem with the middle leaves usually the largest at 6" long and 4" wide. The small flowers appear from late summer to early fall in a cluster near the top of the plant. Zig Zag Plant in partial shade to full shade with well-drained soils. It's not fussy about the soil it is in and can become drought tolerant once established. Easy to grow and low maintenance, Zig Zag can reach 2-3 feet tall. Bees, butterflies and hummingbirds are all attracted to this Goldenrod. Goldenrod can be aggressive and therefore may not be suitable for small woodland gardens. A great choice for cottage and butterfly gardens, as well as, prairie and meadow gardens. Plant with Amsonia, Heliopsis, Chrysogonum and Symphyotrichum as companions in the garden.
