Mint State Uncirculated Emperor Antoninus Pius Roman Empire silver denarius coin. Antoninus Pius was the adopted Father of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. This relationship was important as Marcus Aurelius learned governing skills under his Father during a peaceful & prosperous period of Roman history. Rare obverse variety apparently unpublished. Minted 152 to 153 CE (TR P XVI), 3.25g, RIC 219 variant (no drapery). RSC 197 variant (no drapery). NGC Certified to MS, Strike 5/5, Surface 4/5 (very high subgrades). Superb strike with lustrous surfaces. Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P XVI, right facing laureate bust with drapery on far shoulder. Reverse: COS IIII, Vesta standing left holding simpulum & palladium. Vesta was the goddess of the hearth, the home, and domestic life in the Roman religion.
