Almost Uncirculated Empress Faustina Jr. Roman Empire silver denarius coin. 3.35g RIC M677, RSC 99a, issued between 156 to 175 CE. Empress Faustina II was the wife of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Superb high relief portrait. NGC Certified to AU, Strike 5/5, Surface 5/5 (very rare with maximum sub-grades). Obverse: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, draped bust right. Reverse: FECVNTIDAS, Fecunditas standing front, head right, holding child (unidentified child of Faustina) and scepter. Fecunditas (Latin: "fecundity, fertility") was the goddess of fertility. She was portrayed as a matron, sometimes holding a cornucopia, with children in her arms or standing next to her. An appropriate reverse for Faustina as she gave birth to 13 children.
