Roman Empire silver denarius coin struck for Emperor Antoninus Pius (father of Marcus Aurelius). Minted at Rome, 3.55g, approx 18mm, RIC 260, RSC 1016. Dated issue (TR POT XX = 156/7 CE). Well struck with heavy flan, 3.55g. Superb portrait and detailed presentation of Annona. Lightly toned with luster. NGC Certified to AU, Strike 5/5, Surface 5/5 (rare maximum subgrades). Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P IMP II, laureate head of emperor facing right. Reverse: TR POT XX COS IIII, Annona standing right with foot on prow of ship, holding rudder and modius filled with grain. Annona (Latin annōna “corn, grain; means of subsistence”, from annus "year") is the divine personification of the grain supply to the city of Rome.
