Almost Uncirculated Emperor Marcus Aurelius Roman Empire silver denarius coin. RIC 205, RSC 209, approx 19mm. Reverse expresses luck with regard to the Emperor's departure and return. Dated: TR P XXIII IMP V COS III = December 169 to December 170 CE. Historic emission to celebrate the Emperor's departure to undertake war with the German tribes. Great portrait of Marcus Aurelius. Well struck with lustrous surfaces, very nice in hand. Certified by NGC to AU. Obverse: M ANTONINVS AVG ARM PARTH MAX, laureate bust right. Reverse: FORT RED TR P XXIII IMP V COS III, Fortuna seated left holding rudder and cornucopia. Fortuna was the goddess of fortune and the personification of luck in Roman religion.
