This gorgeous Adoration of the Magi is one of the great masterpieces of Pre-Raphaelite art. It is a tapestry, designed by Edward Burne-Jones with input by William Morris. After the design was done, it took two years of work by three weavers to finish the first tapesty in 1890. Morris's company, Merton Abbey Mills, made a total of ten versions of this tapestry. This is the third version, done in 1894. We chose this one because we thought the colors were brighter, and the inscription at the top was longer. "This tapestry the work of William Morris was designed by Sir E. Burne-Jones Bart and made at Merton Abbey in the year 1894. It is given by a citizen of Manchester in loving memory of his mother." The "Bart" referes to his being a Baronet, a hereditary title for Barons. There is a blue-green version of this picture, which we like for the most part, but this one, with the beatiful reds and golds, appeals to us more.
