Adoration of the Magi Matthias SchiesslWe are always thrilled when we find a new Catholic artist whose work we didn't know before but immediately love. German artist Matthias Schiessl had this effect on us. This charming scene of the Magi kneeling down before the baby Jesus was the first of his to catch our eye. It appeared in the October 1913 issue of Der Christliche Kunst, a German magazine of Catholic art. After that the image was used on holy cards for well into the mid-20th Century. So far we can find nothing about Schiessl's life, but we have found several other adorable Catholic paintings by him that we have never seen anywhere else. He places them all in a somewhat Medieval-looking German setting, which gives them a delightful touch. We think you will like them too, and we hope to offer them soon.** IMPORTANT ** IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER!! There is a white border around the image! .5" for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, 1.6" for 11x14". Image is smaller than the paper!!!! - Acid-fr
