USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 5 Native Range: East Asia Soil: Moist to dryish, well drained, neutral to acidic. Light: Full sun. Height in the Garden: 75' in the wild. I am unsure how tall it will get in the garden, though likely not to its full potential. Attributes: Deciduous oak from east asia that is ornamental and used for cork production....amazingly. Does not seem to be frequently available or common in landscapes. Notes: Q. variabilis is a good choice for the collector, since it seems to be uncommon. I am growing a few in the field for bonsai. We'll see how it goes. This is a really cool species since it is deciduous aaaand has cork bark. Just amazing! Uses: Shade tree, specimen tree, Bonsai.
