USDA Cold Hardiness Zone: 3–7 Native Range: Europe. Soil: Moist, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline. Light: Full sun to part shade. Height in the Garden: 30'+, but easily reduced for bonsai. Size: 4" square pot Attributes: Small heart-shaped leaves with fine serration. Smooth gray bark when young, becoming ridged with age. Vigorous grower with good branch ramification potential. Fragrant pale-yellow flowers in early summer. Notes: Also known as Littleleaf Linden, this species is an excellent choice for bonsai due to its small foliage, elegant form, and strong apical dominance. Responds well to pruning and wiring. Leaf size reduces well over time. Uses: Bonsai, shade tree, pollinator-friendly garden specimen.
