Artist StatementBears Ears National Monument was created by presidential decree on December 28, 2016 to add protection from development to 1,351,849-acres of publicly owned land in Utah. A new Department of the Interior secretary later recommended it be reduced in size by 85%, which is pending legal action. Politics aside, it is a beautiful red rock landscape under the management of the federal Bureau of Land Management. The painting depicts the Valley of the Gods (which is outside the reduced boundaries) north of the town of Mexican Hat in the southeast corner of Utah. ‰ÛÓ Bruce and Scott Sink
