Material: ABS 1. Background: The development of this engine began in the early 1930's. It was known as the Junkers Jumo 204, a 6-cylinder opposed-piston diesel aero engine. Known as the Junkers Jumo 204, it was a 6-cylinder opposed-piston diesel aero-engine.The Jumo 205 aero-engine was the most numerous of a series of aero-diesel engines produced by Junkers. The Jumo 205 powered early versions of the Junkers Ju 86 bomber, but was found to be unresponsive to combat and prone to failures at maximum power, common in fighter aircraft. Subsequent versions of the design also used the engine at very high altitudes, such as the Ju 86P and -R versions for high-altitude reconnaissance in the British Isles. In January 1940, the Luftwaffe tested a prototype of the Ju 86P using the Jumo 207A-1 turbocharged diesel engine. It was more successful as a powerplant for airships, and its characteristics were well suited to airships, as well as non-combat applications such as the Blohm & Voss Ha 139 air
