This listing is for the original painting “Harlequin” by John Frederick Herring Jr. (1820-1907) pictured above. About this work:An excellent portrait of a horse by renowned English painter John Frederick Herring, Jr. (1820-1907).This fantastic painting depicts the racehorse “Harlequin” in profile view in a stable. The horse’s dark brown/black hair stands out against the light color wood, brick, and hay interior. A partially folded red and white striped blanket rests in the bottom right of the composition. A wooden bucket with thin metal chain is attached to the wall at the right of the horse. In the far left, another bucket and broom hide in the shadows. This work highlights Herring Jr.’s careful attention to detail and meticulous brushwork. The work likely dates to earlier in his career when he more closely followed his father’s style and compositions. This work is oil on canvas and is signed in the lower left. It is housed in a later wood frame with plaque.Size:17 inches tall by 21 in
