This listing is for the original painting “Lansquenet” by John Frederick Herring Jr. (1820-1907) pictured above. About this work:An excellent portrait of a horse by renowned English painter John Frederick Herring, Jr. (1820-1907).This fantastic painting depicts the racehorse “Lansquenet” in profile view in a stable. The brown and black horse faces left with its head turned slightly towards the viewer. Draped over a feeding bin to the left of the horse is a red and white striped blanket. The floor of the stable is covered in hay, and bits of the plaster walls have broken away to reveal the brick underneath. This work highlights Herring Jr.’s careful attention to detail and meticulous brushwork. The work likely dates to earlier in his career when he more closely followed his father’s style and compositions. This work is oil on canvas and is signed in the lower right.
