This spoon was sculpted from a tree that fell in a friend’s pasture down the road from our home. The asymmetrical design allows the spoon to maintain contact with the side and bottom of a pan at the same time. The lighter wood is from the edge of the log, which stays lighter in black walnut trees. The utensil has been soaked in food-safe mineral oil and buffed with wax from our bees. The glossy finish will eventually fade with use and be replaced with muted color variations and a fine, velvety patina. You may treat it periodically with mineral oil or another food-safe oil to sharpen colors if you desire.
