
LEVIATHAN: 1914 - Large Tourist & Third class deck plan from 1928
United States Lines: A fold-out (31" by 38") deck plan dated August 1928 for LEVIATHAN's Tourist and Third classes.Split sections of five decks are shown with Tourist packed into the stern and Third shoved into the bow. My gosh they crowded passengers in! If you were booked into a Third Class cubbyhole way down on H Deck, to use the loo you either had to cleverly find the small and hidden facilities on G Deck, or keep climbing stairs past F Deck to large communal bathrooms up on E. My grandparents booked Third Class passage on the LEVIATHAN around this time along with their four young children. When the whistle blew for all visitors to go ashore, my dear grandmother realized one child was missing. A frantic search by my grandfather entailed, undoubtedly encouraged by my grandmother's copious tears. Looking at this warren of passageways and oddball stairways, I image the task wasn't easy.
