Olivine sand is a refractory material which has a low silica content. It is a orthosilicate mineral found in nature with the chemical name "magnesium iron silicate". Wikipedia describes the varieties of olivine { https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivine } as the proportion of magnesium to iron varies. The natural mineral forsterite (magnesium orthosilicate) is at the magnesium end and the natural mineral fayalite (iron chrysolite) is at the iron end.
