National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario turns his well-informed critical eye to a reappraisal of Andres Bonifacio, who he feels should be lionized as much as Philippine society had elevated Jose Rizal to the pantheon of Philippine heroes. He also highlights the contribution of revolutionary literature, particularly those written by select members of the Katipunan, Bonifacio among them, to the eventual success of the Philippine Revolution of 1898 and the downfall of Spanish colonial rule in the country.
