A member of the Yucaipa Valley Gem and Mineral Society (YVGMS) told us this is Vesuvianite from the Crestmore Quarry in Riverside County, California. He also added this is an expensive specimen because of the large size of the crystal (2" x 2" x 2.5"). We recently were going through our many totes full of rocks and came across a large number of these crystals. They were not very pretty, so I kept a couple and donated the rest to the YVGMS.  I really could not find any online to match the size of these. The specimen weighs 168 grams. That's 5.9 ounces. Vesuvianite (Idocrase) pricing online  claims that the green variety is worth $82 per carat. This specimen is 840 carats, so by their pricing, it is worth $68,880. And this is where you say "Not to me it isn't!", and I would agree with you. So how about 50 bucks? If you flip it for $68,000 let me know because I have more. If you are a museum or non-profit group and want me to donate it for a $68,000 tax write-off, I don't have a problem w
